how to research, produce and sell great travel pictures
Paperback, 202pp, 157x233mm (6-1/4 x 9-1/4 inches), over 200 pictures, mostly colour
The Focal Press 1998, ISBN 0-240-51514-5
An amusing aside about this cover -- it's a view from the walls of the Taj Mahal -- is that it has been reproduced numerous times, and the colour has never been the same twice. It's been blue, cyan, yellow, brown...
In the late 90s we realized that we had a great deal of information on travelling and taking pictures. We've been doing it for a very long time, and there are a number of fairly obvious hints and tips that are simply not found in many books. All right, we admit that the 'and sell' part may not be as much use as 'how to research [and] produce' but there are an awful lot of 'how to sell' books where it's clear that the writer knows a lot more about selling than about delivering the goods. We'd be the last to say that it's the only book you need on travel photography, but we'd say that it's a superb complement to the flavour-of-the-month, get-rich-quick books that are all sales style and no photographic substance. It deals with the realities of photographing overseas on a budget: where to spend your money, and where to save it.
